29th May 2011 - H.C. Trotters v Datchet
Wally Gage Memorial Ground
Datchet
The second game of the season and the Trotters were looking for an improvement on the previous seasons game against Datchet.
Captain Wolfenden made it two out of two as he won his second consecutive toss. Trotters to field first.
Waddington, with his fast and bouncy action, opened the bowling with Wolfenden (James) and his straight and steady action the perfect foil at the other end.
Waddington struck first as he clean bowled Platt for 9. Datchet were 17 for 1. Wolfenden (James) struck in the following over as he had Durrant caught by Waddington for 12. Datchett were 25 for 2 off 8 overs and the Trotters had their tails up.
Sadly, Finn, Datchet's No. 3, had other ideas and set about the Trotters bowling attack with Shepherd, No.4. The partnership added 74 runs to move Datchet to 99 before Wickenden slipped a cheeky off spin off the edge of left-handed Shepherd's bat that carried to Wolfenden (John) at wicky who snaffled it up.
Finn was joined at the crease by Williams and the pair added 60 runs before Wolfenden (James) took his second wicket of the game, straight bowling Finn. Datchet were 159 for 4. The game was finely balanced with the Trotters hoping to restrict Datchet to 220 or 230 having taken their top four batsmen. However, Datchet had strength in depth and whilst Waddington took his second wicket when he had Williams caught by McCann with only 3 more runs added to the Datchet score Hussein and Jones scored 19 and 68 respectively. Waddington took Hussein's wicket as he tucked him up LBW. Radclyffe was finally rewarded when he had Jones caught by Wolfenden (James).

Waddington and Jonwood struck late on to take the wickets of K.D. and Mohammed. Datchet were 290 for 10. Butt, who came in at 11, proved he opened for the Saturday 2nd XI as he scored 18 off 4 balls to take Datchet to 312 for 10 from 40 overs.
Trotters bowling figures were as follows:
Waddington 10-0-54-4
Wolfenden (James) 10-1-55-2

The Trotters had to score 313 for victory, 7.8 an over. But not until after a lovely tea that included proper cheese puffs.
Jones and McCann opened for the Trotters. It was tough out in the middle as the Datchet team proved they could bowl as well as bat. McCann plundered a couple of singles and a boundary before he was bowled in the 7th over with the Trotters on 15. Wolfenden (James) was next in and added 14 to the score with good running and some exquisite boundaries. He finally bowled in the 10th over. Trotters were 31 for 2.

Jones was still going strong but struggling to force his will on the leather as he faced good line and length from the Datchet bowlers. Waddington was next in and set about crashing the ball around the pitch. Sadly for the Trotters, Datchet's fielding was as strong as their bowling and batting. Jones picked up his scoring but eventually crashed the ball in to the pouch of one of Datchet's close fielders. He was out for 11. Smith sauntered to the middle.
Waddington found his rhythm as he bashed three boundaries before being bowled for 12 attempting a heave back over the bowler. Trotters were now 64 for 4. Smith was scoring well with his late cut finding the gaps in the slip cordon and running away for 4 each time. With Wolfenden (Ed) at the other end the Trotters started to up the run rate. Wolfenden (Ed) hit a quick fire 10 before he was caught behind. Trotters were 94 for 5.
One Wolfenden replaced another as Wolfenden (John) headed to the middle. The crowd were looking forward to a good partnership but Smith soon followed Wolfenden (Ed) to the pavillion as he was bowled by the express train of a bowler Datchet turned to as their 3rd change!! They had added 4 to the score to put Trotters on 98 for 6. The Express Train set about the Trotters tail as he bowled Wolfenden (John) (1) and Jonwood (1) and had Wickenden (0) caught behind. Trotters were 105 for 9 with Macnamara and Radclyffe at the crease. Radclyffe looked confident but was unable to score from the barrage he faced at either end from the Datchet 3rd change!!! He finally holed out for 1 caught in the deep off an attempted hook. Macnamara was 2 not out however the Trotters were 106 all out.
A very one sided game.
Man of the Match - Tom Smith - safe in the slips and aggressive with the bat in a low scoring Trotters performance.
